Diao Chan, in reality, may never have truly loved Lu Bu. Their relationship was part of a plot made by Wang Yun, Chan's stepfather. He suggested that Diao Chan manipulate the tyrant Dong Zhuo and his mighty stepson, Lu Bu, so that Bu would eventually murder his own father. Chan agreed, and Wang Yun betrothed her both to Bu and Zhuo. Both accepted without hesitation, captivated with Chan's sweet voice, beautiful face, and graceful dance. As Dong Zhuo's betrothed, she constantly told him Lu Bu bothered her with longing, seductive looks; and with Bu, told him that Zhuo made her miserable.
Game:
In the game, she truly loves Bu, and he is angered to see that she is Zhuo's unwilling concubine. Eventually, the two rebel, and together murder Dong Zhuo.
