Ling Tong

Historic Biography:

The son of Ling Cao, Ling Tong quickly becomes one of Sun Quan's most trusted officers and eventually rises to great heights. At a young age his father is killed by the notorious pirate warrior Gan Ning. Tong swears revenge, but his plans are thwarted when Ning decides to swear allegiance to Wu.  However, in spite of their forced alliance, Tong's grudge is preserved, and on multiple occasions he attempts to kill Ning; one occasion being through a sword dance.

Later on, Gan Ning proves his worth in battle, and Ling Tong, driven by jealousy, tries to redeem himself in a duel with an enemy officer. There was no clear better so the enemy shot an arrow at Tong. The arrow succeeded in throwing Ling Tong from his ride, but Ning killed the opposing officer, saving Tong's life.
