Zhou
Yu, or Gongjin, was the strategist of Wu. He was born in 175 A.D., and died in
210 A.D. at the age of 35. He was born in Shucheng. Yu
was known as a handsome and sophisticated man.
Yu
was the wife of the beautiful Xiao Qiao, and the close friend and advisor of
Sun Ce. The two eventually swore brotherhood. Gongjin's children
were Zhou
Xun, Zhou Yin, and Zhou Ying.
Zhou Yu
was one of the main causes of the battle Chi Bi. Zhuge Liang had informed him that Cao
Cao was trying to steal his wife, Xiao Qiao. Yu was infuriated, and agreed to
partake in the battle. Throughout his entire life, Zhou Yu's rival, the strategist of Shu, Zhuge Liang, was
always a few steps ahead. Liang was the wisest strategist
of the era. Most of
his ploys succeeded, however, Yu's rarely did. Liang distressed
Yu all his life, and was even mentioned in Yu's dying
words: "O God, since thou made Zhou Yu, why did thou also create Zhuge
Liang?"
