Taigong Wang and Fu Xi
Fu Xi gives Taigong Wang a lot more independence than his wife and sister, the
beautiful and enigmatic Nu Wa does. He maintains a far more serious and
technical relationship with the youth, and acts more as a mentor than a father
figure, as opposed to Nu Wa, who acts more obviously like a mother than teacher.
Fu Xi knows that Taigong Wang is the way of the future. By descending to the
world of mortals, the three inadvertently surrender their immortality until
their return to their own realm. Thus, if Fu Xi is killed, he knows that Taigong
Wang must inherit his place as commander of the good magical beings, even over
his own wife. If he is confronted by Taigong Wang, and killed by him, his
final words dictate this: "The future rests with you..." Because of the burden
he knows rests on the boy, Fu Xi is reluctant to be soft with him, unlike Nu Wa.
However, he does reveal his fatherly side, and his love, for Taigong Wang once
in a while. When Nu Wa chides him, albeit teasingly, for being overdramatic, Fu
Xi comes to his defense, saying that despite his use of over-embellished words,
they are true. Also, if he is defeated, but not ended, by Taigong Wang, he
remarks fondly, "You have grown, my boy."
